Considering that Longbow II was partially psionic in nature, and it was
Imperial policy to stomp on psionics, I'd say it was something *too* serious
to trust outside of the 'need to know' circle. Remember, Longbow II detected
the Empress Wave inbound. That's pretty serious, IMNSFBHO.

Also, Lucan and Varian were never considered to be viable candidates for the
Throne, thus were only given the *basics*. If something had happened to
Iphegenia, this 'oversight' would have been corrected of course.

IIRC, it didn't give me a *losting, but I was able to use 'get *' with my ftp
tool and snarf the whole bloody thing. I then ungzipped the works and tared &
gzipped the results. It's about 3.8 megs now.

In Deep Impact, Messiah, the ship sent to intercept the comet, used an
Orion. Interesting scene when the detonated the first weapon, everyone
rocked back in the acceleration couches.

Does any one know the best places to go to buy back issues of Challenge
Magazines or for that matter any MT, TNE and T4 books, adventures, etc.

I recently found and purchased most of the Challenge mags I was missing at an
non-Traveller website. Sorry, but I purchased everything. But I'm still missing
7 back issues and a few of the books. Thanks for the help!

My main complaint about Virus is, it leveled the field *too* well and
implemented a nearly undefeatable enemy in the process.

The advent of Virus IMTU is still about 6 years away, *IF* I decide to go
with it. I'm not sure yet, one way or another.

But then again, Chin's Raid of 1123 still hasn't happened by 1124 IMTU,
either, so I guess I'm a variant already. <grin>

But what about the effects of the nukes going off in atmosphere? Somebody's

Graphite coated spheres were able to survive nuke blasts at close range, which
is why you'd want to coat your pusher plate with it.

The ease of loading/debarkation, etc., is probably what drives the cradles,
plus perhaps simplification of maintenance while the ship is being readied
for turn-around. The bigger ships (w/o getting into just how _too_ big some
of them are described as being) probably would threaten almost any practical
landing pad unless their feet got huge or the CG got left on 7/24 (presumably
not desirable - or do they leave the CG on in the cradle in the novels?).

The only reason I wouldn't adopt it is because it makes (re)-designing
Striker vehicles a real pain.

Question: Is movement from stop to 3G instantanious or does it take several
moments (like an ocean liner starts it screws and *slooooowly* moves away)?

If it's 0-3 in no seconds, then you have the suitcase/brick anology. If
it's several moments... then your player has reaction time where I would
allow (for the epic adventure telling) him to say, "Oh farrrrrrk..." then
aim himself back at his own vessel's open airlock (or whatever it was that
allowed them to exit the ship), and kick-off... hopefully to torpedo
straight into his oen ship, or atleast grab something on the outside that he
can crawl back in!

However, if you intend on punishing the player for his actions (as foolish
as they may have or may not have been), then

1) Dislocate some joints, have his hand ripped away from it's hold and burn
him :^)
2) Let him hold on until he can no longer hang on, then just let him drift
in space to die a long, lonly death... *eg*

If he lets go, will the ship's "wash" push him away into space?

All these, and many more questions to be asked on... TML!

While I agree with elements of your summary I think the comment
about Strephon's inaction is a bit harsh. Apart from the time
immediately after the assassination (in 1116) when he was grief-
striken he was apparently in charge of his faction for a
considerable length of time (atleast until 1119 and possible
until 1121). Reading the diary entries in Survival Margin I
suspect part of the reason for Strephon's reaction to IRIS was
the accumulated stress of 5 years of frustration and guilt
leading to Clinical Depression. There are clear signs that he
was becoming overwhelmed by these feelings by 1119. And his own
doctor noted after the assassination Strephon was "more detached
than usual" ... suggesting someone who tended to bottle things up
(and thus psychologically more vulnerable to long term stress
related disorders). He probably used to confide, and lean on,
his wife (Empress Iolanthe) but obveously she's not "available"
to him any more. So that's 5 years of facing the crisis and
trying to deal with it before he "went to bed, pulled the covers
over his head and wished the world would go away."

Rather than a "competent but rather uninspired leader" who was
out of his depth, I see a man crumbling under the strain.

I wonder, sometimes, what would have happened if Strephon had
gone along with IRIS. I suspect there were many on Capital who
were afraid of Lucan and would have jumped at any excuse to
depose him. Similar in ways to the situation during WW2 between
Hitler and his general staff.

That's the plan. Beatings will continue until morale improves.

Keven

Then what the Hell is the Power Requirement step for (yelled in
confusion ... not anger)?

If you have a TL10 2000 kJ weapon with a cyclic rate (RoF) of 1/2
then you require 2666 KW of power.

If you have a TL10 2000 kJ weapon with a cyclic rate (RoF) of 1/60
then you require 88.87 KW of power.

Is that per Second? If so, then it appears to consume much less
power at a lower cyclic rate. What am I missing?
